About the PAHAL (DBTL) Scheme

  • Consumers will need a bank account to join the scheme and receive LPG subsidy
  • Consumers will also get one time permanent advance in their bank account prior to buying the first market priced LPG cylinder
  • Consumers will receive subsidy in their bank account as per their entitlement of subsidized cylinders
  • Till consumers join the scheme they will get cylinders at:
    • Subsidized price for 3 months w.e.f 15.11.2014 till 14.02.2015
    • Market price for next 3 months, but the subsidy due will be given to them if they join the scheme within these 3 months i,e till 14.05.2015
  • W.e.f 15.05.2015 all LPG consumers will get cylinders at market price and only those who join the scheme will receive one time permanent advance & subsidy from the date of joining
  • To join the scheme and receive subsidy, consumers should use, Option 1 if they have Aadhaar and Option 2 if they don't have Aadhaar:


Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi gets 1 year life term

  • A local court in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh has sentenced Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi to a year in jail for breaching prohibitory orders during the Lok Sabha elections in 2009.
  • The Minister was later granted bail.
  • Mr. Naqvi held under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code, Section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act and Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.PC).
  • Not to be disqualified as M.P. under section 8(3) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 as the awarded sentence is less than 2 years.
  • Section 8(3) of the Representation of the People Act :  a person convicted of any other offence and sentenced to imprisonment for not less than 2 years shall be disqualified form the date of such conviction and shall continue to be disqualified for a further period of 6 years since his release.


  • H S Brahma to be India's next Chief Election Commissioner
    • Harishankar Brahma, the seniormost Election Commissioner, will succeed V.S. Sampath as the next Chief Election Commissioner of India.
    • Mr. Sampath will demit office on 15 January, 2015 after turning 65.
    • CEC can hold office for 6 years or upto 65 year of age (whichever is earlier).
    • The President of India (based on a recommendation from incumbent Govt of India) appoints the Chief Election Commissioner. The Chief Election Commissioner can be removed only through impeachment by the Parliament
    • Sukumar Sen was the first Chief Election Commissioner of India.
    • S.Y. Quraishi became the first Muslim to be the CEC of India.
    • The Election Commission consists of Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioner. The Election Commission is assisted by deputy election commissioners. They are drawn from the civil service. They are assisted, in turn, by the secretaries, joint secretaries, deputy secretaries and under secretaries of the commission. At the state level, the Election Commission is assisted by the chief electoral officer who is appointed by the chief election commissioner in consultation with the state government. Below this, at the district level, the collector acts as the district returning officer. He appoints a returning officer for every constituency in the district and presiding officer for every polling booth in the constituency.

    About 100 dead bodies found floating in Ganga river in Unnao, U.P
    • Scores of dead bodies found floating in Ganga river in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh.
    • There is no word yet on how the dead bodies reached there even district magistrate has begun a probe into the matter.
    • DNA samples has been taken from 80 dead bodies by the forensic team.

    Inflation rises in December
    • Wholesale inflation rises to 0.11% in December from 0% in November with the rise in food prices.
    • The Wholesale Price Index(WPI) with base year 2004-05 is usually consider as headline inflation indicator in India. WPI, which consists of 676 commodities for evaluation of inflation. Services are not included in WPI in India. In India, there are three main components in WPI - primary articles (weightage - 20.12%), fuel & power (weightage - 14.91%) and manufactured products (weightage - 64.97%).
