  • The genesis of the National Games is in the Olympic movement, which gathered momentum in the country in the 1920s. Aimed at promoting Olympic Sports in the country, the National Games in India was envisaged as the Indian Olympic Games in its initial years. The culmination of this movement was the launching of the 9th edition of the Indian Olympic Games at Lahore in undivided Punjab in 1924. The competitions were held every two years in a major city of the country ever since. From 1940, the Indian Olympic Games was held as National Games. This event comprises of various sports disciplines in which sportsmen from the different states of India participate against each other.

  • This is Serena's 19th Major title.

Womens Double : 
Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova won the Australian Open women’s doubles title on Friday beating Chan Yung-jan and Zheng Jie.

Mens Double :
Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini won Mens Double in Australian Open.

Mixed Double :
Martina Hingis won her first Grand Slam title since returning from retirement, combining with Leander Paes of India to win the Australian Open mixed doubles title with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kristina Mladenovic of France and Daniel Nestor of Canada.
